Company » The Story

Spumador was founded in 1888 by the Verga family in the province of Como. The story begins when Domenico and Regina Verga fi rst started bottling a traditional Italian carbonated drink "Gassosa" in a distinctive bottle capped with a glass ball (referred to as "ul sciampagn de la baleta" - the champagne with the ball).

1922 saw Antonio Verga, son of Domenico and Regina, move the Company to Lomazzo and start the production of herbal and carbonated soft drinks. This period culminated in 1938 with the launch of "Spumador classic", well-known today as simply "1938".

The 1940s and 1950s saw a further development of Spumador's product range.

In 1966, the discovery of the Fonte S. Antonio mineral water spring meant the Company started bottling mineral water under the Fonte S. Antonio brand. Thanks to the uniqueness of the water, the quality of the packaging and the strong commercial networks established, the glass version of the S. Antonio brand is now the market leader in the door-to-door water business.

Following the crucial discovery of this mineral water, the 1970s saw increased distribution and brand awareness throughout the Lombardy region. The arrival of PET and large-scale supermarket retailing in the 1980s presented new opportunities for Spumador.

The Group penetrated the large distribution and the contract manufacturing channels, supplying an ever-increasing number of customers, thanks to its practical yet elegant PET line. Spumador embraced the new millennium with the development and production of healthy non-carbonated beverages through new aseptic bottling technologies. Proof of the quality of such intiatives lies in the commitment by leading worldwide beverage companies to outsource bottling processes to Spumador. The Group's products can now be found throughout Europe.

Today, the Group has also established itself in the catering and restaurant channels, as well as in bars.
